Seychelles trade and customs authorities
Several organisations have different responsibilities within the import and export process. These official sources should be used for the latest regulatory information.
Customs clearance
How goods enter or leave Seychelles
Goods imported into or exported from Seychelles must be declared to Customs using the appropriate declaration. The process may include document verification, tariff classification, customs valuation, assessment of duty and taxes, permit checks, inspection, and cargo release.
The SRC administers Customs and the ASYCUDA World declaration system. The importer, exporter, or appointed agent is responsible for providing accurate information and authentic supporting documents.
Restricted goods
Import and export permits
Some goods require a permit or approval before they may be imported into or exported from Seychelles. Requirements depend on the product and may involve the Trade Department or another competent authority.
Restricted categories can include certain animals and animal products, plants, food, pharmaceuticals, vehicles, chemicals, and other regulated goods. Confirm the current requirements before the cargo is shipped; a permit obtained too late may lead to delays, storage charges, or refusal of entry.
Currency information
Exchange rates and shipment costs
International freight, supplier invoices, insurance, and other shipment costs may be quoted in foreign currency. The Central Bank of Seychelles publishes official exchange-rate statistics that can be useful for general reference and historical comparison.
Published CBS rates are not necessarily the exact commercial rate applied by a bank, authorised dealer, carrier, or other service provider. Customs valuation and the conversion of declared values are governed by the applicable customs rules at the time of declaration.
Prepare in advance
Common customs documents
The precise requirements depend on the shipment, but the following information is commonly needed when preparing a customs declaration.
- Commercial invoice
- Packing list
- Bill of lading or air waybill
- Insurance certificate, where applicable
- Import or export permit for restricted goods
- Accurate description, value, quantity, and origin of the goods
